The Ana & Adeline Foundation is excited to announce the award of its 2018-2019 grants and scholarships to YAYA, the New Orleans youth arts organization, and the YAYA alumni. YAYA was awarded $15,000 in support of Paint the World, their high school summer travel program. Fifteen visual artists are the recipients of grants and scholarships that range $500-$10,000 totaling $98,000 in support to their creative endeavors.
The Ana & Adeline Edwards Foundation supports the emerging YAYA visual artist community with resources for advancing their careers and creative practice. YAYA is a working studio and youth arts center in New Orleans that was founded in 1988 by artist Jana Napoli. For three decades, YAYA has worked to empower creative young people through educational and entrepreneurial experiences in the visual arts. In 2011, Napoli established the Ana & Adeline Foundation to complement the YAYA program by supporting its alumni into their adult lives. Seeing the value of investing in the long-term trajectory of the artists, Ana & Adeline Foundation awards grants and scholarships to individual visual artists who represent a diverse range in age and stage of their lives - from college students to emerging artists and creative business owners. Ana & Adeline Foundation also makes grants to YAYA for projects that promote dialogue and exchange with the national and international visual arts community.
2018-2019 YAYA Paint The World summer travel grant
Paint the World creates opportunities for high school artists to serve as ambassadors while expanding their own cultural understanding and general education through travel. Many YAYA artists do not have opportunities to travel and Paint the World gives them the chance to step outside of their lives in New Orleans and to explore other communities. Paint the World broadens horizons through personal and career growth, college exploration, art projects, and educational workshop partnerships.
In the summer of 2018, Paint the World sent ten teens on arts exchanges across the United States: The Center for Craft in Asheville, North Carolina, the Lower Eastside Girls Club in New York City, The Oxbow School in Napa, California; and Studio Everything in Chattanooga, Tennessee. Paint the World was also made possible by the host organizations and a grant from The Windgate Foundation.
